Vedanta work started in Brasil several decades ago. Swami Vijayananda, a
disciple of Swami Brahmananda, founded a Center of Vedanta in Buenos Aires,
Argentina. Between 1957 and 1972, he visited Brasil several times, sowing seeds of Vedanta
in several cities like Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and São Paulo. With his grand inspiration and of his sucessors, many
eager devotees began practising Vedantic teachings. Due to their interest,
hard work and enthusiasm, groups came into existence in São Paulo, Rio de
Janeiro, Curitiba, and Belo Horizonte.
Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama in
São Paulo was founded in 1974, Centro Ramakrishna Vedanta of Curitiba and Grupo
de Estudos de Ramakrishna Vedanta of Rio de Janeiro were founded in 1990,
and a small group of Vedanta studies came into existence in Belo Horizonte
sometime later. The center in São Paulo was affiliated to the
Ramakrishna Order of India in 1999, with the coming to Brasil of Swami Nirmalatmananda
as the first resident monk. Nirmalatmananda further consolidated the
existing groups, visiting them often, and inspiring the devotees; and thus 3
Centros Ramakrishna Vedanta were ready for affiliation. In the year 2006,
the Governing Body of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission accepted the three
centers as subcenters of Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashrama, São Paulo.

In
order to enhance the social service activities of the movement, the
construction of a new building in Belo Horizonte was started in 2007,
with the generous help of some devotees. The building is yet to be
completed, for want of funds. Here are a few photographs of the
building under construction. Your help in the construction and other
activities is welcome.
